Genetic Counselor Peds-Ctr Dev Behvr & Genetics 63718
The Genetic Counselor works in consultation with the physicians and with referring physicians to plan, develop, and implement clinical practice and research in the area of clinical human genetics. In addition, will work with other departments as the need for genetic counseling expands. The Genetic Counselor's primary responsibility is providing counseling to families and adults in the area of clinical human genetics. Conducts and extracts information from literature reviews to assist in developing a diagnostic plan or workup. Analyzes and interprets information obtained from the patient, medical records, and current available resource information. This involves the assessment of patient pedigrees, a review of medical, physical, and psychosocial status, dysmorphology assessments, interpreting genetic laboratory and diagnostic tests. Serves as a resource of information for referring physicians. Provides comprehensive teaching of patient or families regarding the etiology, inheritance, incidence carrier risks, genetic testing, test results and their implications for the individual and the family members. Provides crisis and grief counseling when needed and makes appropriate referrals. Responsible for developing and implementing educational programs for the community physicians as well as interdisciplinary staff at UH. The Genetic Counselor has a role in case management as they assist in making referrals to sub specialists, community services, resources and identifying financial coverage and authorization of services based upon individual patient needs. Interventions involve a disciplined application of professional knowledge related to genetic technologies, theories and resources for a broad range of problems. This position provides genetic counseling at a specialized level of practice.

The Psychiatric Recreation/Art Therapist assesses and evaluates patient needs and interests through various means relative to Recreational and/or Social Adjustment with the expectation to affect improvement in the patient's physical, mental and social well-being. The Recreation/At Therapist plans and conducts activities for clients/patients groups, working individually or as a member of the treatment team. The position will also assist patient in leisure activities to engage and improve mind, body, and spirit, and patient adjustment to life with disease injury or disability, analyzing and reporting behavioral patterns to the treatment team or others. Develop and implement individualized therapy plan and execute it keeping everyone abreast of progress through written and verbal reports and through documentation in the medical record. Plan and schedule patient therapy based on individual needs. Schedules patients, maintaining accurate attendance and therapy records. Interfaces with nursing, medical staff, utilization review social services, discharge planner, therapy team to assist in successful treatment plan and patient discharge. Assess and recommends and requisitions purchases for equipment and supplies that pertain to therapeutic recreation. Abides by department policies and procedures and operational guidelines. Supervises students and volunteers. Participates in departmental inservices and teaching and other departmental activities. Functions under general supervision of a coordinator/Clinical Director.

A vital and integral part of the trauma team, the Trauma Registrar will be responsible for the high-quality detailed data collection and entry, statistics and reporting of data from University Hospital as well as at a Regional Level into the trauma registry. This data collection will be done through both abstraction from patient records as well as concurrent entry during trauma rounds. Additionally, the registrar will generate reports from the database as needed. The Trauma Registrar is also responsible for downloading data for submission to the Department of Health, Bureau of EMS or their designee for inclusion in the New York State Trauma Registry. This position will work closely with the Adult Trauma Medical Director, department of surgery, department of nursing and the trauma team.
