Job Summary: Functions as the Coordinator of the Bone Marrow Section.  Emphasis on examination of patient bone marrow specimens to include performance of manual differential of bone marrow and blood samples.  Teaching residents, fellows, medical students, and medical technology student aspects of morphology. Assisting in the bone marrow procedures as well as staining the slides. Prep of BM for pathologist sign-out. Reviews abnormal results on hold for WBC differentials. Enters patient demographics into LIS/Co-Path when required.  Assists with interface between morphology and flow cytometry, such as making slides and staining slides.  Answers phone inquiries.  Oversees maintenance of teaching set cases and other training materials used in resident education.  Ensures proper dating and inventory of reagents in BM section.  Assists with patient care related research.  Assists on bone marrow procedures, as well as teaching of procedures with the residents and new employees.  Performs special stains when required.  Performs various automated, semi-automated, and manual procedures as defined by the BM Cytometry Lab Manual (encompasses all facets of assign work area).  Adhere to all safety regulations practices with analysis to include patient specimens, QC, challenges, etc. Assumes responsibility on assigned areas regarding troubleshooting and inventory.  Reports to Supervisor for daily assigned duties and time off requests. Completes mandatory training programs obtaining 12 hours of CE credits per year as required by NYS. Attends section meetings and obtains info from meeting minutes, notes, etc.  Reviews bone marrow report for QA purposes.  Ensures positive customer service provided to external, internal clients and other health care professionals. 
Minimum Qualifications:

NYS licensed to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist. Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or Bachelor's degree in Science.  Six years experience in a Clinical Laboratory focusing on Hematology.  Ability to distinguish colors.

Preferred Qualifications:

Good cell morphology skills.

7:30 am-4:00 pm M-F
