Job Summary:

The Clerical Specialist II will assist with coordinating patient registration, check in /check out process, greets patients, checks demographic information and notifies staff of arrival. Responsible for referral authorizations, pre-authorizations, obtains information that may be requested by other staff to assure acquisition of these documents. Initiates insurance carrier regulatory needs, advances beneficiary notices or waivers of liability and forwards to appropriate staff for completion /discussion with patient. Schedules and Reschedules new, annuals, follow-ups, cancellations with patients over the phone, for continuity of care. Generates encounters and paperwork.  Maintain provider templates, assure that schedule is full, place reminder calls. Obtains additional records, reports, x-rays, labs as needed for provider and other staff. Responsible for mail distribution, faxes off the copier, sorting to providers and nursing.  Ensures faxes go through, paperwork off the fax has MRN number on it, Patient name and assigned provider. Scanning of providers paperwork, and medical records. Will assist with other tasks assigned by leadership. Use of computers and all pertinent office equipment such as computers, copier, fax, scanner, and shredder.  Work with multiple EPIC work queues and EPIC in-basket messages daily. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Associates degree and two (2) years relevant patient financial/insurance services experience in a healthcare related setting or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Working knowledge of medical terminology, familiarity with medical coding, and excellent written/oral communication skills required

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior working experience in ambulatory patient care administrative functions including patient registration and check out, obtaining referrals and insurance authorizations, managing EPIC referral work queues, communicating with outside agencies such as insurance carriers, billing companies and/or other support agencies preferred.
