Job Summary: The Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Staff Development Educator shall be responsible for assisting the Associate Director of CDI with the day to day operations of the CDI team and aid in the direct supervision of CDI staff. This position will assist in management of work flow, training new CDIS’, assist in writing CDI policies and procedures and responding to final coding reconciliation issues. Assists in the process of second level CDI quality reviews and audits. Assist with the development of agendas and leading and attending team meetings. Educates and mentors CDI Staff.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Nursing or other Healthcare related field required. NYS Licensed/Registered (or eligible) Registered Nurse required. Five years post licensure acute care RN experience required. Experience working with a Clinical Documentation Improvement Program required. Advanced clinical expertise and extensive knowledge of complex disease processes required with a broad clinical experience in an inpatient setting required. Demonstrated competency in teaching/learning process, organizational skills and computer literacy required. Excellent communication skills and professional demeanor is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experienced educator with a strong understanding of the requirements for clinical documentation and coding according to the rules of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers. Prior or current experience at academic medical center desirable. Prior or current experience in clinical denial management desirable. Certified Clinical Documentation and Certification (CCDS) certification preferred. Thorough knowledge of complex clinical concepts including application of those concepts to clinically validate effectively. Knowledge of ICD -10 and CPT coding guidelines and Coding Clinic and proper application of these guidelines.
