Job Summary:

Job duties may include, but will not be limited to, providing advice on complex corporate transactions including the responsibility of due diligence; managing physician practice acquisitions; providing advice on new health care structures in compliance with federal and state law; analyzing, preparing and negotiating all types of contracts including professional service agreements involving faculty practice plans and independent community based physicians, commercial and vendor contracts, including but not limited to, service contracts, equipment leases, and revocable permits; drafting and reviewing hospital and university organizational policies, procedures; and providing legal guidance for our internal compliance programs. Also, an important skill necessary for this position is the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with employees in all levels of the organization.

Substantive knowledge and direct experience with Federal and State healthcare laws and regulations including: EMTALA, HIPAA, HITECH, Stark/Anti-Kickback Laws, NY Department of Health regulatory compliance, False Claims Act, Civil Monetary Penalties, Medicare Conditions of Participation, 340B Program, and payor reimbursement is necessary.  

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in health care law as outlined above as well as excellent legal research, analytical, verbal and written communication skills; superior academics; produce top quality work with limited supervision; have a desire to continuously keep abreast of relevant statutory and regulatory changes.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in the State of New York, or be eligible for and obtain a license to practice law in New York within 6 months of the date of appointment. Candidates applying must have a minimum of three (3) years experience in health care law representing academic medical centers and/or non-profit integrated health systems, either as in-house counsel or as a member of a health law practice group in a major law firm.
