The primary function of the Director of Foundational Sciences Curriculum is to coordinate the integrated systems-based pre-clerkship curriculum, in collaboration with the leadership team, unit and course directors, and unit and course coordinators. This position will analyze curriculum processes and assessments to identify gaps in the curriculum, participate in comprehensive reviews of the curriculum including information from each systems-based unit and longitudinal course, implement improvements to ensure a comprehensive medical education program, and assist with ongoing curriculum redesign and renewal. The incumbent will work closely with the faculty and staff to coordinate unit and course content and structure, promoting vertical and horizontal integration, continuity, consistency and smooth transition across the curriculum, and ensuring the efficient use of curricular resources. The incumbent will use best practices and relevant literature to advise faculty on the creation of learning experiences and modules, and in the development and use of instructional methods and materials, with the goal of optimizing student learning outcomes. In conjunction with the Assistant Dean of Foundational Sciences, the Director will supervise unit and course coordinators within the pre-clerkship curriculum, and will oversee the compilation and distribution of unit and course syllabi and other materials (in digital and print form), management of grading databases, preparation and distribution of schedules and student group assignments, and notification of faculty regarding teaching assignments and educational policies. The position will be responsible for inputting, maintaining, and reporting on the data used for mapping the entire four-year medical education curriculum.
Master’s degree in education, instructional design or related field and minimum of one year experience in curriculum coordination or development and/or instructional design OR Bachelor’s degree in education, instructional design or related field and minimum of three years experience in curriculum coordination or development and/or instructional design required.
The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students, faculty and leadership at all levels, have an in depth understanding of program evaluation and student assessment, and possess excellent communication, analytical and project management skills.
