Job Summary:

The Human Resources Specialist at Upstate provides a variety of HR services within a complex unionized academic medical center environment working within the Staffing & Compensation section of Human Resources. This position is responsible for coordinating the recruiting and hiring efforts for position vacancies and the timely appointment of candidates accepting employment.

Duties include but are not limited to: Job Description review, position classification, creating advertisements, posting positions, pre-offer review of applicants, creating new hire paperwork and coordinating pre-hire activities. This position is the main liaison between candidates and hiring manages. The Human Resources Specialist/ Recruiter will work with candidates to determine if minimum qualifications are met and ensure all pre-employment requisites are completed before their start date. This position deals with confidential/sensitive information associated with applicant and employee activity to include criminal background investigations and reference checks.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of two years of related professional experience, plus excellent written/oral communication, organizational, interpersonal and computer skills required. Understanding of and appreciation for the complexities of a unionized academic medical center essential.  Requires use of independent judgment on a daily basis and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, timely and with accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous human resources experience in a SUNY, healthcare, or public organizational setting strongly preferred.
