Job Summary:

The vascular surgery APP is responsible for the initial evaluation, formulating the appropriate diagnosis and managing the ongoing treatment plan of the vascular surgery patient, determining appropriateness for discharge, and discharging as needed to the appropriate level of care. The PA/NP should have strong communication skills and be able to coordinate effectively with an interdisciplinary team throughout the hospital, including the admissions area, the inpatient unit, and other parts of the Upstate University Hospital system as necessary.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performs comprehensive history and physical examinations and compiles patient medical data.
  • Orders diagnostic/laboratory tests as needed and collects, interprets and documents test results for patients.
  • Assists in the pre-operative and post-operative management of vascular surgery patients.
  • Functions as a first assistant in vascular surgery OR procedures.
  • Performs hospital rounds with the interdisciplinary vascular surgery team.
  • Participates in treatment teams and develops and implements patient treatment care plans, records progress notes, and monitors therapeutic interventions.
  • Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens.
  • The successful applicant will be a member of an interdisciplinary team and will work collaboratively with our physicians in providing vascular surgery inpatient care.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • NYS license
  • ACLS & BLS required
  • Current CPR
  • NCCPA Certification or NP ANCC with a first assist certification
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two to five years vascular surgery experience preferred
Work Days:

Full Time including some evening and weekend coverage
