Job Summary:

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will be responsible for providing obstetrical and gynecological patient care within the scope and standards of care, the diagnosis of illness and physical conditions, and performance of therapeutic, corrective, and prescriptive measures of the designated inpatient or emergent triage outpatient patient population within a supervising practice agreement established with a specific physician on the staff of the Department of OB GYN, University OB GYN Associates Inc. The obstetrical services will include antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care to include the performance of circumcisions, ED OB evaluations, admissions, discharges, and management for all the above. The gynecological services will include pre-operative and post-operative care to include L&D Triage, ED evaluations, admissions, and discharges.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs complete health history, physical examination and psychosocial assessment of patients within the designated clinical unit.
  •  Performs fetal monitoring NST with interpretation, and amniotic fluid index (AFI) interpretations.
  •  Performs newborn circumcisions.
  • Orders customary laboratory, radiological and diagnostic studies per practice protocols, and differentiates between normal/abnormal findings and follows protocols for abnormal findings, which may include referral to consulting physicians per customary pattern of the attending MD or with the supervising physician.
  • Formulates the plan of care along with the attending physician, the patient, and their family, based on expected goals of care and length of stay.
  • Works collaboratively with the attending physician, consulting physician(s), residents, fellows, and other disciplines to identify, develop, and implement an appropriate plan of care that maximizes individual patient/family preference and enhances quality, access, and cost-effective outcomes.
  • Prescribes in-patient and discharge medications according to New York State law, including controlled substances (with DEA authorization).
  • Prescribes medical equipment, devices, physical and occupational therapy, and home health services per practice protocol.
  • Practices as a member of the allied health staff according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and bylaws, as outlined in the delineation of privileges at Crouse Hospital.
  • Evaluates treatment and health care plans for effectiveness and modifies per clinical standards and practice protocols.
  • Educates patient and family to facilitate and promote healthy adjustment to new or changed health patterns.
  • Acts as a professional role model to all levels of staff by incorporating expertise and related experience into all aspects of patient care.
  • Plans and organizes care to meet individual patient needs and to ensure appropriate clinical resource utilization per protocols, pathways, and other means.
  • Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team including the attending physician, fellows, and residents to develop and implement the therapeutic plan of care for a group of patients and ensure communication with family members.
Minimum Qualifications:

NYS licensed/registered NP or PA required (NYS NP specialty area of certification must be consistent with practice). Must have NPI number and be Medicare Enrolled with Medicare Identification Number (or PTAN) OR be eligible for Medicare Enrollment within 6 months of hire (eligibility criteria for NP requires National Certification through AANP or ANCC, and Master's Degree) (eligibility criteria for PA requires graduation from an accredited PA program and National Certification through NCCPA). Initial certification must be present or obtained within 6 months of hire. Current CPR certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

ACLS, PALS, NRP Provider (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), NALS, EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring), fetal monitoring NST with interpretation, and amniotic fluid index (AFI) interpretations.

Work Days:

Monday - Friday Afternoon/Evening with occasional weekends & holidays
