Job Summary:
The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching pharmacology courses within the PA program, employing evidence-based teaching methodologies. This includes developing and updating course syllabi, materials, and assessments aligned with program objectives. The faculty member will utilize the institution's learning management system to post syllabi, assignments, and other materials, and to communicate with students. Additionally, the role involves facilitating the application of pharmacological principles in clinical scenarios and supervising and mentoring students, ensuring the integration of pharmacology knowledge into patient care. The faculty member will provide academic advising and mentorship to PA students, guiding their professional development, and offering office hours or scheduled appointments to support student learning and address concerns. Collaboration with faculty to develop and enhance the pharmacology curriculum, participation in curriculum review and accreditation processes, and engagement in scholarly activities related to pharmacology and medical education are also key responsibilities. The faculty member will attend faculty meetings and participate in departmental committees as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates could possess a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.), Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.), Ph.D. in Pharmacology, or equivalent degree with a strong background in clinical pharmacology. Alternatively, a master's level Physician Assistant degree with extensive clinical experience in pharmacology is acceptable. Active, valid, and unencumbered New York state licensure or certification as applicable to the discipline is required.
A minimum of two years of clinical experience in pharmacology or a related field is necessary, along with a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate, graduate, and/or professional education and student success. Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and effectively interact with students, faculty, administration, and external constituents, are essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior teaching experience in a Physician Assistant or medical program is preferred, along with experience using different teaching methods, including case-based learning, flipped classrooms, and problem-based learning. Evidence of scholarly experience and productivity in pharmacology or medical education is desirable. A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary settings and familiarity with accreditation standards and processes for PA programs are also preferred.
