Job Summary:

The Administrative Director of UUMAS provides strategic, administrative, and financial leadership to support the mission and goals of the College of Medicine (COM) and Upstate Medical University Health System.  The position reports to the Chair of the Board of Directors of the UUMAS Governing Board along with the Board Executive Committee and Department Board representatives/Chairs of the clinical departments.

The Administrative Director is directly responsible for the central office.  Direct reports include Principal Financial Officer, Compliance Officer, Quality and Practice Operations Director, in addition to the Payor contract and Medical Malpractice Specialist and the Sr. Administrative Coordinator. There are 13 professionals who work in the Central Office.

The Faculty Practice Plan includes departmental practices of each of the 18 clinical departments within the COM. These departmental practices are called Medical Service Groups (MSGs). UUMAS is the umbrella organization over the MSGs and provides some centralized services and functions including: third party payor contracting, compliance, privacy and security, quality programs, medical malpractice, risk management, Epic practice management systems coordination and analysis.  Responsibility for a community based multispecialty and Family Medicine practice in the western suburbs.

Much of the work is done in partnership with the departments/MSGs and working closely with the respective Chair and Business Manager and in close relationship to Upstate University Hospital and the COM Office of the Dean. The Administrative Director plays a pivotal role in planning, coordinating and participating in initiatives, fostering collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, and representing the faculty practice plan within and outside of Upstate Medical University.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training in related area
Demonstrated experience and success in management within a large complex tertiary health system, academic medical center, extensive clinically integrated network or comparable health care environment.
Ability to pursue multiple goals, analyze complex issues, facilitate change in response to a dynamic environment, and communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
Excellent ability to collaborate with senior management and executive-level staff, to develop and implement objectives, goals, budgets, strategic plans, policies, and priorities, and to measure and evaluate operations in conjunction with them.
System thinker balancing strategic objectives with operational achievement.
Excellent interpersonal, communications, public speaking, and presentation skills.
Excellent writing skills.
Demonstrated ability to plan, execute and evaluate change.
Analytical and critical thinking skills to troubleshoot problems and make decisions based on fact and sound judgment, business acumen and the mission and values of Upstate Medical University.
Extensive experience successfully working with physicians in academic clinical settings.
Excellent consensus building skills and be able to navigate political landscapes.
Skilled at influencing decision-making, navigating complex organizational structures, balancing competing priorities, and effectively managing stakeholder relationships.

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters degree in a health care of business-related field.
Ten plus years of management experience in a large complex academic health system.
Familiarity and competence with technology including excellent Excel skills and analytic processes.
Knowledge of professional billing and third-party health insurance negotiation and administration.
Familiarity with the Epic system
Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional projects in a complex environment across clinical, information technology, financial and legal areas.
Experience in business development in a clinical health care setting.
Expert knowledge of physician practice delivery models, business and strategic planning and organizational development.
Proven ability to establish and utilize metrics to drive excellence, support operations and facilitate integration.

Work Days:

Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

L8 $143,327 - $255,313

Please note the salary information shown is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as internal equity, market and business considerations. The salary range depicted is based on full time, 1.0 FTE and would be prorated accordingly for less than 1.0 FTE.
