Job Summary:

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) reviews with the responsible attending anesthesiologist the pre anesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient. Such evaluation may indicate the need for additional studies or consultation. The CRNA may perform this evaluation under the supervision of the responsible attending anesthesiologist. Develops and carries out an anesthetic plan under the direction of the responsible attending anesthesiologist. Such a plan includes selection and implementation of appropriate monitors, drugs, fluids and anesthetic techniques. Provides continuous vigilant observation of patients under the CRNA's care, correcting abnormal patient responses and seeking consultation from the responsible attending anesthesiologist where appropriate. Completes an accurate and timely anesthetic record for inclusion in the patient's chart. Ensures patient stability and safe transfer to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit. Manages emergency situations including initiating and participating in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Takes appropriate precautions to minimize risks of infection of patients, the CRNA and other health care professionals. Maintains the appropriate confidentiality of patient information however it was gathered. In rotation, responsible for the administration and management of scheduling, supervision of students and ancillary personnel. Participates in Department of Anesthesiology quality assessment, Department of Anesthesiology educational program and in Department of Anesthesiology research programs. Also responsible for participation in the Department of Anesthesiology committee work as assigned by the Chief of Anesthesiology.

Minimum Qualifications:

NYS Licensed/Registered (or eligible) RN required. A Master’s degree in nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree is required by the time of appointment. A graduate of a Nurse Anesthesia educational program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia or its predecessor is required by the time of appointment. Certification by the Council of Certification of Nurse Anesthesia is required by the time of appointment. CPR-BLS & CPR-ACLS certification required by the time of appointment.

Mon-Fri; 8 10 or 12 hour shifts
