Job Summary:
The Child Life Specialist will provide psychosocial, developmental, and emotional interventions to support inpatient pediatric hematology/oncology patients of all ages and their families. They will also be responsible for covering other pediatric units as needed. He/she will be responsible for focusing on preparation, language, distraction, parental involvement, and teaching approaches prior to and during a child's hospitalization. He/she will serve as a resource for parents prior to a child's procedure and for feedback once the procedure has been completed. He/she will be responsible for documenting all child life care in patients electronic medical record (Epic); will collaborate with multidisciplinary team to educate and promote effective coping strategies during new diagnoses, and medical procedures. He/she will also assist with the recruitment and training of new volunteers and students for the unit. This individual will be responsible for educating fellow health care professionals and the community about his/her role and participate in community and hospital wide functions.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Child Life. Must have completed a child life internship under the direct supervision of a Certified Child Life Specialist. Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) credential required or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree preferred.
Work Days:
Monday - Friday, Days with rotating weekends.
