Job Summary:

The Children's Surgery Performance Improvement (PI) Coordinator assumes responsibility for the coordination of the Children's Surgery PI activities for Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital encompassing all areas of patient care from preoperative to post operative care. Responsibilities include tasks related to quality initiatives for the Children's Surgery PI Committee including the recognition and assessment of care concerns and the development of corrective action measures to ensure loop closure. This position monitors performance improvement indicators as outlined by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Department of Health (DOH) and hospital criteria; and initiates and directs action plans on identified performance improvement indicators in order to uphold the standards to obtain Level 1 Verification. The Children's Surgery PI Coordinator creates and runs reports with emphasis on trends, changes in activity and data and assists with the validation of the trauma registry. The Children's Surgery PI Coordinator attends surgical rounds and interacts with entities of the Children's Surgery Team, children's surgery team liaisons, other teams such as the Department of Nursing, Pediatric Quality and Safety, and Hospital Administration. The Children's Surgery PI Coordinator will be responsive to provide quality updates to the hospital on a scheduled basis and will be active in the local, regional and state levels.

Minimum Qualifications:

NYS licensed Registered Nurse, Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (or equivalent) and a minimum of 3 years satisfactory post-licensure acute care RN experience. Excellent written/oral communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills required. CPR- BLS certification required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with pediatric surgical patients and with Quality Improvement initiatives preferred. Microsoft office suite - specifically Word, PowerPoint, and Excel experience preferred.
