Job Summary:

SUNY Upstate Medical University's Physician Assistant Program is seeking a dedicated full-time faculty member to serve as Clinical Coordinator. This faculty position provides leadership in clinical education while contributing broadly to the educational mission of the program through teaching, student advising, assessment, accreditation activities, and continuous program improvement.
Working collaboratively with the Director of Clinical Education, Program Director, Medical Director, and faculty, the Clinical Coordinator supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of the clinical curriculum while maintaining flexibility to contribute across the didactic and clinical phases of the program as program needs evolve.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Director of Clinical Education in the administration and continuous improvement of the clinical phase of the program.
  • Recruit, develop, and maintain relationships with clinical preceptors and clinical training sites.
  • Assist with clinical site development, monitoring, and evaluation to ensure high-quality educational experiences.
  • Review and update clinical rotation objectives, student competencies, and preceptor expectations.
  • Support clinical rotation administration, including assessment, grading, and evaluation of student performance.
  • Participate in clinical callback days, OSCEs, and other clinical assessment activities.
  • Assist with implementation of clinical education policies and procedures
  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate didactic courses, ensuring alignment with program objectives and accreditation standards.
  • Serve as an Academic Advisor and Capstone Project Advisor, providing guidance on academic and professional development. Participate in student recruitment and admissions activities, contributing to the selection of qualified candidates.
  • Evaluate student performance during OSCEs, assessing competencies such as clinical history taking, physical examination, diagnostic reasoning, patient communication, and professionalism.
  • Engage in the program's continuous self-assessment and annual review processes, including the revision of program policies, academic standards, and behavioral standards.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance the learning environment and ensure the program meets the evolving needs of the healthcare community.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree
  • Current Board Certification 
  • Valid New York State license or eligibility for licensure
  • Minimum of three years of clinical experience in a healthcare setting
  •  Strong communication and organizational skills
  •  Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in clinical education or student supervision.
  • Prior teaching experience in a higher education setting, particularly within a Physician Assistant program
  • Experience in curriculum development and familiarity with accreditation standards
  • Commitment to interprofessional education and serving diverse, underserved communities
  • Primary care clinical experience
  • Experience with student assessment and remediation
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Brightspace)
  • Engagement in scholarly activities relevant to the PA profession
  • Active involvement in professional organizations related to Physician Assistant education
