Job Summary:

The mission of SUNY Upstate Medical University is to improve the health of the communities we serve through Education, Biomedical Research, and Health Care.  Beyond our downtown campus, we provide care through our clinics and offices across the greater Syracuse area. 

In support of our ongoing growth, we are seeking highly skilled and motivated Advanced Practice Provider to join the Critical Care Float Team, providing care to our various Intensive Care Units including the Medical ICU, Neuro ICU, and Cardiac Surgery services as part of our Critical Care Fellowship Program.   

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Fellowship is intended for new graduates, as well as APPs with experience who are interested in Critical Care medicine.  The core focus of the program is in the management of patients with acute complex medical needs.  There are specialty rotations with Hospitalist, Palliative Care, Neurology Stroke, and Cardiology. This is a 9-month postgraduate program for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants and upon completion of the program, the APP will be fully integrated into their full-time role on the critical care float service. 
  • Learning will be completed through clinical immersion, didactic lectures, simulation and self-guided learning.
  • APP fellows will be integrated into multidisciplinary teams with various types of learners. 
  • Fellows will learn to conduct comprehensive assessments, diagnosis, management, treatment/interventions, interpret laboratory tests & diagnostic studies, and arrange referrals, consultations, and therapeutic services.
  • Comprehensive documentation in the EHR
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with patients, families, referring physicians, and all members of the health care team.

As an APP, you will be an integral member of the Critical Care Float Healthcare Team, demonstrating professionalism, leadership, and a commitment to Upstate’s mission, vision, and values, while adhering to all institutional policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • NYS Licensed/Registered NP or PA.
  • Current National Certification consistent to the clinical practice. 
  • Have a NPI number and be Medicare enrolled with a Medicare Identification Number (or PTAN) (or eligible for Medicare Enrollment within 6 months of hire.
  • CPR-BLS Certification required at the time of appointment.
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment and credentialing clearances.
