Job Summary:

Reporting directly to the President of Upstate Medical University, the Dean of the College of Health Professions provides academic leadership for the College. The Dean is responsible for shaping a bold, forward-looking vision aligned with Upstate’s institutional strategy. This includes championing innovation, enhancing academic distinction, and identifying opportunities to expand enrollment, strengthen revenue, and elevate the College’s national profile.

A significant expectation for the Dean is the continued development of a faculty of distinction. This includes upholding high standards for recruitment, promotion, and professional growth, and ensuring that faculty are well supported in teaching, clinical practice, research, and scholarly activity. As SUNY Upstate is an R2-designated institution, the Dean will play a key role in advancing research productivity and securing increased sponsored funding.

Externally, the Dean will strengthen and expand clinical and community partnerships that are essential to student training and workforce development. The Dean will also serve as the principal advocate and ambassador for the College, both within SUNY Upstate and in regional and national arenas. This role involves cultivating strong relationships with academic leaders, professional associations, and philanthropic partners. Growing philanthropic support, enhancing alumni engagement, and increasing the College’s visibility will be critical to sustaining long-term success.

Minimum Qualifications:

Terminal academic degree (PhD, EdD, DSc) and professional experience in a discipline directly relevant to the programmatic offerings of the College Health Professions (CHP). Record of achievement in teaching, scholarship, and services sufficient for appointment as a tenured full Professor in the College. Strong, sustained record of leadership and administrative experience in support of students and faculty in teaching, service, and scholarship, with experience in a health professions college. Experience with accreditation standards and procedures relevant to those within the professions of the College. Exceptional communication skills, familiarity with budgeting in an academic institution and demonstrative understanding and commitment to working as a member of a campus senior academic leadership team. Demonstrated sustained success in building partnerships and relationships across academic disciplines, administrative units, hospital department leadership representing CHP programs, and with external communities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Background of providing clinical service in the health professions. Achievements in, and evidence of, commitment to a diverse and inclusive environment. Experience with strategic planning and resource development (e.g., fundraising, grants). Evidence of ability to foster positive alumni relationships.

Work Days:

Monday-Friday, days with flexibility
