Position Overview
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the Upstate Community Hospital inpatient psychiatric unit works in collaboration with an interdisciplinary health care team including an attending psychiatrists, nurses, and social workers. All work is performed in a team-based approach to care.
The NP is responsible for the initial evaluation, formulating the appropriate diagnosis and managing the ongoing treatment plan of the acute psychiatric patient, determining appropriateness for discharge, and discharging as needed to the appropriate level of care. The NP should have strong communication skills and be able to coordinate effectively with an interdisciplinary team throughout the hospital, including the admissions area, the inpatient unit, and other parts of the Upstate University Hospital system as necessary.
