Job Summary:
Performs overview and routine quality control of all treatment calculations, dose calculations, consultations concerning radiation therapy planning, and determination of the radiation output of all radiation therapy treatment units. Provide technical assistance in the development of treatment plans for patients undergoing radiation therapy; monitor patients; maintain established policies, procedures, objectives, quality measurement, and safety; Assist Radiation Oncology where appropriate with radioactive seed implant cases (Brachy Therapy, other special procedures). Determines shielding requirements for therapy and imaging equipment installations, recommends performance specifications for new/existing equipment selection. Determines radiation dosimetry characteristics for radiation therapy machine and sources. Collaborates with physicians and technologists on clinical applications of equipment and radiation source. Keep abreast of the research of new techniques, physics methods and equipment. Provides education and training of medical physics and radiation safety for physicians, nurses, technologists and other Medical Center personnel as needed on a regular and interval basis.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in Physics, New York State license (or eligible) in Therapeutic Radiological Medical Physics and experience in Radiation Oncology Physics required. Radiation Oncology IT systems experience preferred. Certification by the American Board of Radiology in therapeutic Radiological Physics required. If not certified must achieve certification within four years of hire date.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with MRI and/or MR Linac preferred.
