Job Summary:
The Martínez-De Luna Lab in the Center for Vision Research (CVR) (https://www.upstate.edu/cvr) is seeking a Project Aide to assist with mouse colony maintenance under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and senior lab personnel. The Project Aide will collect tail snips, isolate genomic DNA, and run PCR for genotyping mice generated from breeding crosses. The position also involves preparing laboratory stock solutions and performing other miscellaneous lab duties, such as autoclaving.
The Project Aide must have previous undergraduate research experience or have completed science laboratory courses at the college level. In addition, the Project Aide must possess strong organizational and oral/written communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The candidate should also be eager to learn, be receptive to feedback, and have strong interpersonal skills.
The Martínez-De Luna Lab specializes in developmental biology, focusing on how the extracellular matrix guides the development and connectivity of retinal ganglion cells, which are responsible for transmitting all visual information to the brain. We aim to uncover strategies that exploit the extracellular matrix to prevent blindness.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be currently enrolled in a college or university.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a research laboratory or having taken science-related courses at the college level.
Work Days:
Monday-Friday; Hours will vary between 8:00 am - 6:00 pm depending upon experiments.
