Job Summary:
The Neal Lab investigates the roles of conserved transcription regulators in the development of sensory systems. We aim to identify proteins, signals and genome features that serve as determinants of transcription regulator function and specificity. The lab employs in vitro assays, cell culture systems and the fruit fly Drosophila as model systems.
We are seeking a self-motivated Research Support Specialist to join our team and contribute to active research projects. Duties will include but are not limited to: preparing reagents, performing experiments, record keeping, analyzing data, and reporting progress to the Principal Investigator. The successful candidate will receive training and will be expected to independently perform experiments using molecular, biochemical, and genetic methods, and employ aseptic techniques for microbial and eukaryotic cell culture. Examples procedures include PCR, DNA and protein electrophoresis, immunoprecipitation, western blots, and luciferase assays. Additional tasks may include performing cell culture, Drosophila husbandry, fluorescence microscopy, and preparation of samples for omics experiments.
Essential aspects of the job include: attention to detail, meticulous record keeping (analog and digital) and being a good lab citizen. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage concurrent tasks should be exemplified. An interest in bioinformatics and/or coding related to omic datasets is desired but not essential. This job is ideally suited for a highly motivated recent graduate wishing to gain hands-on research experience prior to applying to Graduate or Medical School.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelors Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Neuroscience or related field which included laboratory research or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with molecular biology, cell culture, or biochemistry techniques.
Work Days:
Monday-Friday 8:30-5pm; some evening or weekend hours may be required, depending on experiments.
Message to Applicants:
Salary Range-$35,000-$44,000
Please include a Cover Letter outlining prior research experience(s) and specific undergraduate courses that have prepared you to work in a research laboratory setting.
