Job Summary:

Reporting to the Benefits Manager, and working closely with the Benefits Leave Coordinator, the Accommodation Management Specialist is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and managing medical documentation related to employee personal and family leaves pursuant to disability and NYS workers' compensation claims. The emphasis will be on returning employees to work in collaboration with their health care providers either in a temporary restricted duty assignment (MAD/light duty), long-term permanent limitation (ADA reasonable accommodations), or previous job duties. Additional focus will also be on reducing absenteeism through supervisory and employee education (i.e. ergonomic consultation, importance of retaining leave credits, etc.) as well as developing incentives and/or recognition for good attendance programs.

The Accommodation Management Specialist will primarily concentrate on ensuring aspects of continuous and intermittent employee leaves meet all legal and contractual requirements in order to facilitate timely return to work or exploration of long term benefits (including retirement options).

The Accommodation Management Specialist is responsible for review, analysis, and management of confidential medical documentation related to employee personal and family leaves pursuant to disability and workers compensation claims. The incumbent will focus on ensuring that all aspects of long-term continuous and intermittent employee leaves meet legal and contractual requirements in order to facilitate timely return to work or approval of long term benefits.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree and one year of relevant experience working with medical leaves or accommodations, understanding of long-term disability or closely related capacity required. Excellent written/oral communication, organizational, analytical, and computer skills required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience with the application and interpretation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Acts, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and other federal, state and local laws and regulations governing disabilities and medical leaves (i.e. NYS Civil Service Law) desired. Public employment experience in a unionized environment, and knowledge of use of medical treatment protocol, medical and legal terminology strongly preferred.
