Job Summary:
The mission of SUNY Upstate Medical University is to improve the health of the communities we serve through Education, Biomedical Research, and Health Care. Beyond our downtown campus, we provide care through our clinics and offices across the greater Syracuse area.
In support of our continued growth and expansion we are seeking highly motivated Advanced Practice Provider to join the regions only Level 1 Trauma Center Fellowship program.
Key program highlights & responsibilities:
- This is a 12-month postgraduate program for nurse practitioners and physician assistants. The fellowship is intended for new graduates as well as APPs with experience who are interested in acute care hospital medicine. The core focus of the program is in the management of patients with acute complex medical needs. There are specialty rotations in med-cardio, ED, Hem-Onc, Procedural, Neuro Stroke and others as schedule permits.
- Learning will be completed through clinical immersion, didactic lectures, simulation and self-guided learning.
- APP fellows will be integrated into multidisciplinary teams with various types of learners.
- Fellows will learn to conduct comprehensive assessments, diagnosis, management, treatment/interventions, interpret laboratory tests & diagnostic studies, and arrange referrals, consultations, and therapeutic services.
- Comprehensive documentation in the EHR
- Establish safe and appropriate discharge plans
- Build and maintain strong relationships with patients, families, referring physicians, and all members of the health care team.
As an APP, you will be an integral member of the hospital medicine multidisciplinary healthcare team, demonstrating professionalism, leadership, and a commitment to Upstate’s mission, vision, and values, while adhering to all institutional policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
- Current NYS Licensure or Registration as a NP or PA.
- National Certification eligible, required at time of appointment.
- Have a NPI number and be Medicare enrolled with a Medicare Identification Number (or PTAN) (or eligible for Medicare Enrollment within 6 months of hire).
- CPR-BLS Certification required at the time of appointment.
- Must successfully pass pre-employment and credentialing clearances.

- Variable - FT Days/nights, weekends and holidays, 8/12 hour shifts. Initial training period will be primarily 8.5 hour days, rotating weekends and holidays.
