Job Summary:

The Adult Behavioral Emergency Response Team (BERT) Program Nurse provides advanced professional nursing care for patients who have a risk for escalated behavior. The Adult BERT Nurse oversees the work of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, ancillary staff and students assigned to the unit. Specifically, they will perform as an experienced registered nurse whose advanced knowledge and skill in behavioral health, and in the assessment and delivery of nursing care, provide the basis for the clinical leadership role. They will provide mentorship, education and support to all levels of staff specific to the psychiatric decompensation of patients. They will serve as a preceptor to staff nurses, students and other health care professionals for specialty care, skill development and application. They will work collaboratively with the psychiatric, medical and other multidisciplinary teams. They will exemplify the Upstate mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Upstate policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

RN licensure as outlined by NYS Education Department. Two years post-licensure clinical nursing experience in an acute care specialty area. Meets NYS Civil Service requirements. CPR Requirement: American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Professional Level Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR. On-line BLS CPR programs are not acceptable.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Nursing, Certification in crisis intervention or de-escalation training. Psychiatric Certification. Experience with evidence-based psychotherapy modality. Experience working with psychiatric and geriatric population.

Work Days:

Days/Evening/Weekends and holidays based on operational needs
