Job Summary:

The person in this per-diem position will function as the program coordinator and lead instructor for Upstate's Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) Program.

  • Will be present at most, if not all class sessions to assure program continuity. The AEMT Program Coordinator will be knowledgeable in all aspects of prehospital care and adult educational theory and practice.
  • They will have more than five years of clinical prehospital care experience in addition to 2 years of teaching experience.
  • The AEMT program coordinator will oversee the development & day to day operations of the Upstate Advanced Emergency Medical Technician programs.
  • Conduct classroom and laboratory sessions in accordance with lesson objectives; demonstrate skill and/or knowledge in teaching disciplines.
  • Utilize innovative teaching methodologies, techniques, and delivery models to maximize learning & effectiveness.
  • Conduct skills proficiency verification, scenario competencies. 
  • Make continuous effort to improve the quality of the program & instruction. and other student evaluations, as necessary.
  • Prepare and maintain records to ensure the integrity, efficiency, and effectiveness of the course.
  • Adhere to curriculum standards as regulated by: NYS DOH BEMS, NEMSES, CoAEMSP, CAAHEP, and AHA
  • Provide supervision and oversight for assigned courses.
  • Serve as liaison between the students, Clinical Coordinator, Medical Director, Director EMS Education, and UEM.
  • Ensure that the facilities, classroom, and lab areas are a conducive learning environment.
  • Ensure the equipment and supplies are clean, in working order and of adequate quantity to promote learning.
  • Identify equipment needs and aid in inventory control.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with students, colleagues, and the community. ALS Program Coordinator
  • Provide access to students through electronic communication, regular office hours and other appropriate methods.
  • Provide advice and assistance to students regarding instructional or program specific issues.
  • Participate in scheduled program or institutional service activities as needed. 
  • Participate in EMS Program, BEMS meetings and or committees as needed.
  • Participate in UEM activities, community education, recruitment and or special programs.
  • Participate in activities required to maintain program accreditation standards.
  • Participate in the planning process by assisting in the development of objectives, goals and establishing budget priorities.
  • Review, evaluate and revise program curricula and practices to ensure compliance with professional standards, state-mandated guidelines, and requirements of business industry.
  • Assist in the development of program faculty and staff.
  • Participate in activities for faculty and instructor development.
Minimum Qualifications:

At least 5 years experience working as an active Paramedic in NYS and instructional experience.

  • NYS AEMT certification or higher
  • NYS Certified Instructor coordinator (ALS Endorsement)
  • Associates degree (bachelors or higher preferred)
  • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS instructor
Preferred Qualifications:
  • National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians PHTLS & AMLS Instructor Certifications
  •  Advanced Burn Life Support

Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as internal equity, market and business considerations. The salary range depicted is based on full time, 1.0 FTE and would be prorated accordingly for less than 1.0 FTE.
