Job Summary:
The Associate Director of Coding is responsible for monitoring staff levels and workflow for Inpatient and/or Outpatient areas to ensure that all accounts are coded accurately and in a timely manner. Provides leadership and expertise in ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and CPT-4 coding systems as well as MS-DRG, NYS DRG, APC and APG. Provides leadership and expertise in data quality and reporting. Understands the general flow of health information from discharge, coding, billing and data reporting. Implements efficient workflows and practices. Ensures that coding processes and guidelines meet NYS and Federal requirements and standards. Supervises and ensures productivity, turn-around-time, and quality of work are met. Directs the training of new employees and ensures ongoing training of all staff. Conducts performance appraisal reviews and routine assessment of staff competency providing timely and appropriate feedback.
Minimum Qualifications:
RHIA and 2 or RHIT and 4 years of Health Information Management experience. At least 2 years in an administrative/supervisory capacity Must have demonstrated leadership skills, excellent communication skills, strong analytical skills, IP /OP Coding experience using ICD10 and CPT codes. Is familiar with the denials/appeal process. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel) required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Leadership experience in overseeing Inpatient/Outpatient Coding at a teaching hospital with Level 1 Trauma Center. Familiarity with Epic and 3M (Solventum) a plus. Experience in managing large groups of employees working remotely. Is knowledgeable with CDI and the reconciliation process. Strong Communication skills needed. Familiarity with Coding Guidelines, CMS and NYS regulatory requirements. Demonstrated experience in writing performance evaluations, interviewing and counseling employees in a union environment. Experience in denial management is preferred.
Work Days:
Monday-Friday, days with off shift hours based on operational needs.
