Job Summary:

The Department of Medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical University is seeking an experienced and committed physician leader to serve as the Division Chief of Nephrology at the regions largest employer and the only academic medical center in Central New York. Our mission is to improve the health of the communities we serve through education, innovation, research, and patient care. The division of Nephrology provides comprehensive inpatient (2 campuses) and outpatient care with dedicated nephropathologist and APP support. The selected candidate will have the capacity to implement and further develop programs including interventional nephrology, glomerular disease, polycystic kidney disease, onco-nephrology, stone disease, resistant hypertension, and more.

Position and Responsibilities:
The Division Chief of Nephrology will report to the Department Chair of Medicine. The selected candidate will qualify for an academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor in an academic clinician educator track.
The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

The recruitment and retention of clinical and research faculty with primary appointment in the Division of Nephrology.

Providing oversight in quality and safety initiatives, and leading clinical excellence.

Developing and implementing training curriculum for medical students, residency, and fellowship programs

Providing effective mentoring, educational opportunities and professional development for faculty as well as ensuring the highest quality of communication amongst members of the division and within the Department of Medicine.

Cultivating philanthropy

Developing and ensuring the effective use of financial and physical resources within the division of Nephrology

Minimum Qualifications:

Salary and rank for this position will be commensurate with the applicants experience and background

M.D. or D.O., M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree.

Degree in MBA, MPH, or MHA preferred.

Board certification in Nephrology with ongoing clinical and scholarly activities.

Fellowship trained in Nephrology and/or additional ACGME Accredited Subspecialty Fellowship.

Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in New York State prior to the start of appointment.

Experience in federally or philanthropy funded, industry sponsored clinical or translational research.

Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent Communication Skills, Previous experience in Leadership and Academics in a Hospital Setting.

Work Days:

Monday through Friday daytime hours with rotating on-call

Salary Range/Pay Rate:

 DOQ
