Job Summary:  Job Overview: We are seeking dedicated and passionate after-school tutors to support 9th-grade students in the subjects of English Language Arts (ELA), English Language Learners (ELL), Algebra 1, Geometry, Earth Science, Social Studies, and Living Environment. Tutors will be responsible for reviewing key concepts, assisting with homework, and providing targeted academic support to help students succeed. This is an in-person position at one of the following school locations: Nottingham, Henninger, Corcoran, or PSLA @ Fowler.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide academic support in English Language Arts (ELA), English Language Learners (ELL), Algebra 1, Geometry, Earth Science, Social Studies, or Living Environment to 9th-grade students.
  • Review and reinforce concepts covered in class and assist with homework assignments.
  • Customize tutoring sessions to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Collaborate with school staff to align tutoring sessions with the 9th-grade pacing and curriculum.
  • Track student progress and provide feedback to students & NYGEAR UP Facilitator when necessary.
  • Maintain a positive and supportive learning environment.
Minimum Qualifications:

Must be a current student enrolled at Upstate Medical University and approved for financial aid through the Student Financial Aid office at Upstate.       

Preferred Qualifications:

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of 9th-grade ELA, ELL, Algebra 1, Geometry, Earth Science, Social Studies, or Living Environment topics, or willingness to learn the 9th-grade pacing and curriculum.
  • Prior experience tutoring or teaching students in 9th grade or relevant grade levels is preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of students, including English Language Learners.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be available to tutor in-person between the hours of 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at least two days a week, Monday through Friday.

Must be willing to work at Nottingham, Henninger, Corcoran, or PSLA @ Fowler in the Syracuse City School District.

Work Days: Must be available to tutor in-person between the hours of 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at least two days a week, Monday through Friday. Salary Range/Pay Rate:

$17/HR
