Job Summary:

Provides administrative support for department of rehabilitation, primarily by verifying patient insurance benefits and retrieving authorizations daily. Consistently monitors accounts to ensure necessary steps have been taken for proper reimbursement of insurance companies. Work with various departments and staff to resolve denials. Stays current on changes and updates from insurance industry. Provide support to front desk staff with questions and provide back-up when necessary; assist new staff member's integration into the team. Other clerical duties assigned as needed. Must be able to communicate effectively in order to transfer information, as well as complete a variety of tasks within a given timeframe. Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills are necessary. Computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology desired.       

Minimum Qualifications:

**The NYS Department of Civil Service has expanded the NY HELPS Program. During this program, the NYS Civil Service Exam requirements are suspended for the Hospital Patient Services Clerk 2 title.

For consideration for this title, you must meet one of the following minimum qualifications:

NYS Department of Civil Service Eligible list or eligible for transfer

Or

Promotional:

You must be a qualified employee of the State University of New York and have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Hospital Patient Services Clerk 1 or as a Nursing Station Clerk 1

Or

Open Competitive (Non-competitive, NY HELPS) Qualifications:

Two years of full-time clerical experience in a health care setting; or two years of full-time secretarial experience in a health care setting; or two years of full-time patient care experience in a health care setting.

Work Days:

Schedule based on 40-hour work week. Monday-Friday Days with some holiday coverage required.
