Job Summary:

The Medical Office Assistant functions as a clinical liaison between the patient and the provider.
Position performs, clinical patient care and clerical support activities.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare exam rooms for patients before, during and after examinations or procedures
  • Taking and recording vital signs, such as heights, weight, and blood pressure, review medication lists, family and medical/ surgical history, and obtain medication authorization
  • Works within Upstate's EPIC EMR to dictate information to patients & document in their chart,
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills and knowledge of medical terminology for efficient work
  • Proficient constant use and understanding of EPIC/ EMR, clear concise documentation within of ALL patient interactions and provider directives
  • Practices highest level of infection control- keeping exam rooms clean and organized, fully stocked and sanitized in between every patient
  • The Medical Assistant exemplifies the Upstate mission. Vision and values and acts in accordance with Upstate policies and procedures.
  • Participates in Quality Control testing for glucometer, refrigerator temperatures, and eye wash station checks.
Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of an approved Medical Assistant or Medical Office Assistant program or one year experience directly related to the medical field; Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross; excellent interpersonal and organizational skills required.
