Job Summary:

SUNY Upstate Research Foundation is in search of a Secretary II to provide outpatient clerical support to the Ophthalmology Ambulatory Care Clinic at Upstate's Specialty Services at Harrison Center.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Greet patients check demographics and insurance information.
  • Complete patient registration and discharge activities utilizing EPIC.
  • Generate necessary paperwork, and notify staff of patient arrival.
  • Check out patients and make future appointments for patients.
  • Obtain medical records and reports as needed for providers and/or other staff.
  • Review need for referrals, authorizations, and obtains information as needed. 
  • Initiates any insurance carrier regulatory needs, such as ABNs or waivers of liability and forward to appropriate staff for completion.
  • Answer department phones and forward message to appropriate provider/staff.
  • Perform support functions such a distributing mail, scanning documents, and other clerical office duties as assigned. 
  • Must have strong communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of secretarial/clerical experience required.

Ability to multi-task.

Strong customer service skills and excellent phone etiquette are necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ambulatory patient care setting experience preferred. 

Experience with Medical Data Base systems (Epic software preferred) for patient registration and scheduling.

Working knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing.

Work Days:

Monday - Friday, Varying hours between 7:00 am- 5:30 pm. No weekends/holidays.
