Job Summary:

This position will primarily provide focused activities within our sterile products laboratory at the Downtown Campus. As such, they will collaborate with a team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to oversee sterile product medication therapies. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: medication preparation and validation (including standard and hazardous/chemotherapy preparations), utilization of IV lab technologies, upkeep with specific sterile products training and validation, and correspondence with pharmacy/hospital staff about patient care needs related to sterile product compounding. The position will also have some pharmacy staffing requirements outside the sterile products laboratory.

Job duties for the position include but are not limited to: Interpretation of medication orders and prescriptions to ensure they are complete, safe, rational, and compatible with institutional policy. Pharmacists have responsibility for preparing compounds and dispensing medications for inpatient and ambulatory care use. This includes the preparation of injectable sterile products and non-sterile compounds. Pharmacists may be responsible for performing duties in various practice locations, including inpatient, emergency departments, ambulatory care clinics, and transitions of care settings. Pharmacists at Upstate are expected to provide information to health care practitioners to promote the safe and rational use of medications. Furthermore, pharmacists shall provide drug monitoring services, maintain pharmacy records according to law and institutional policy, interpret policy and procedures for hospital staff, participate in teaching programs for the department and hospital staff, and participate in the department’s quality assurance programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

B.S. in Pharmacy or Pharm.D and NYS Pharmacist license and registration (or eligible) required. Candidates who possess a NYS pharmacist limited permit must obtain license within 1 year of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous hospital experience preferred. Dedicated sterile products pharmacy experience preferred

Work Days:

This is a part time (70% time) position. Rotating shifts: Days, Evenings, Weekends & Holidays (occasional Nights as needed)
