Job Summary:
The Patient Service Representative provides patient-friendly service graciously, efficiently, and confidentially. This role is fluid based on the needs of practice. Tasks can fluctuate to meet the operational needs of the clinic at any given time.
CLERICAL PRACTICE
- Primary responsibility is scheduling patient appointments and ensuring appropriate follow-up visits have been scheduled at the time of discharge
- Assists with coverage for patient registration, which includes checking patients in, verifying that demographic and insurance information are accurate and updated
- Answers the telephone, takes accurate messages, and routes messages to the appropriate party. Manages telephone calls professionally, courteously, and in a helpful manner
- Greet patients and/or their family members or advocates in a friendly and helpful manner
- Responsible for making sure that all patient-related information has been reviewed with the patient at each appointment. (i.e., insurance information, address, phone number, emergency contacts, etc.)
- Responsible for collecting patient copayments at the time the patient is seen
- Participates in scanning of information into the medical records
- Responsible for copying patient insurance cards and prescription drug cards, if checking patients in. Updating the pharmacy department on any new insurance or changes in coverage
- Monitors incoming faxes and distributions appropriately
- Adhere to HIPAA compliance standards
- Performs other duties as requested
OFFICE EQUIPMENT USED
Telephone, fax machine, computers and printers, copier, postage machine and shredder.
COMPUTER SYSTEMS USED
EPIC, Outlook Email, Excel, Word
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates Degree or pertinent college level courses and two years of administrative/office management experience. Will consider equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Excellent organizational skills are required
- Excellent telephone skills required. Candidates must be capable of communicating with various types of people (patients, physicians, hospital staff, laboratory personal, etc.)
- Candidate must be able to handle multiple tasks at the same time and change quickly from one type of task to another (e.g., answering phones and making an appointment at the same time)
- Candidate must attend mandatory in-service trainings and staff meetings
Work Days:
Monday through Friday daytime hours
