Job Summary:
Upstate University Medical is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Nurse Practitioner to join our team, providing comprehensive patient care for the Psychiatry-Child Clinic!
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner providing medical management and psychotherapy services to a diverse and often at-risk patient population.
Key Responsibilities:
- Obtains comprehensive information regarding patients including but not limited to: physical, functional, psychosocial, emotional, cognitive, sexual, cultural, age related, developmental, environmental, spiritual, and economic in a systematic and ongoing fashion.
- Assesses the effect of interactions among individuals, family, community and social systems on health and illness.
- Utilizes complex data and information gathered during interview, examination and diagnostic processes to identify diagnoses, in accordance with standardized classification systems, from entry of client in the healthcare system and throughout encounters.
- Evaluates therapeutic and potential adverse effects of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments.
- Prescribes pharmacologic agents and evidence-based treatments, therapies and procedures based on current knowledge of pharmacology and physiology and consideration of healthcare consumer’s comprehensive healthcare needs.
- Documents and communicates expected outcomes with all members of the Interdisciplinary Team, patient and family to foster identification of patient centered, measurable and time estimated goals.
- Develops with the patient/family an individualized plan of care that addresses age specific, physical, psychosocial, cultural and educational needs and modifies the plan as patient status changes.
- Delivers care in a manner that upholds, preserves and protects patients autonomy, dignity, rights, values and beliefs.
- Maintains a therapeutic and professional patient-provider relationship with appropriate professional boundaries.
- Takes appropriate action regarding instances of illegal, unethical, or inappropriate behavior that can endanger or jeopardize the best interests of the patient.
- Provides high quality of care while meeting prescribed productivity benchmarks.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Prior experience in a Psychiatry setting.
- Master’s Degree as a Nurse Practitioner in specialty area of Psychiatric
- Current NYS Licensure or Registration as a Psychiatric NP
- Have a NPI number and be Medicare enrolled with a Medicare Identification Number (or PTAN) (or eligible for Medicare Enrollment within 6 months of hire)
- AHA CPR-BLS Certification required at the time of appointment.
- Must successfully pass pre-employment and credentialing clearances.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with pediatric patients and/or mental health services.
- American Nurses Association certification as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner preferred.
