Job Summary: Responsible for the tracking, coordination and communication of patient referrals. 
Ensures complete and accurate patient registration, including demographics and current insurance information.
Handles requests from internal and external referral sources and provides relevant information and data.
Serves as point person for referral process to include Gynecologic Oncology physicians, referring practice, patient and family, and internal and external communications.
Assembles information concerning patient's clinical background and referral needs.
Contacts insurance companies to ensure verification of benefits and prior authorization approval requirements are met. Documents authorizations in EPIC medical record.
Reviews details and expectations of referral with the referred patient.
Assists patients in finding solutions for potential issues related financial or social barriers (e.g., request interpreters as appropriate, transportation services, etc.)
Ensures that referrals are addressed in a timely manner.
Calls and informs patients of scheduled appointment following up with written communication.
Relieves front desk staff for breaks or vacation/sick coverage.
Communication with referral sources to ensure patient information is complete and request any records or testing results needed.
Demonstrates courtesy and helpfulness towards patients, families, and outside facility staff.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with physicians, staff and management.
Maintains patient confidentiality by following Upstate HIPAA and Privacy policies.
May provide other duties, as needed, assigned by the practice manager. Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate field and 2 years related experience. Will consider equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent oral and written communication skills, competency in appropriate computer software applications, and good organizational skills. 3-5 years medical administrative office experience preferred. EPIC experience a plus.

Work Days:

Monday - Friday 8:00 - 4:30 with some variation
