Job Summary:

This position will involve studying cellular therapy and its mechanistic insights in the treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus with islet and stem cell transplantation using state-of-the-art technologies. Our laboratory is engaged in transformative research that encompasses the use of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) for generating pancreatic organoids, with a keen focus on translating these findings from bench to bedside. Additional research avenues include examining the development of pancreatic beta-cells, the transdifferentiation of alpha cells, and the application of iPSC-derived islet cells in both animal studies and clinical trials.

Candidates will receive advanced training from the investigational team to enhance their professional skills. Duties include but are not limited to, assisting in the design and research conduct of the projects, developing new ideas that promote current research, and preparing and publishing scientific manuscripts. Post Docs will be involved in the clinical, translational, and basic science trials using cellular therapy in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. The Research Scientist appointment provides a unique platform to engage in both clinical and basic science research related to cellular therapy in diabetes, allowing for hands-on experience with in vitro cellular systems and diabetic animal models. An additional unique feature of the position is the opportunity to interact with clinical researchers in the group who are also studying diabetes, thereby broadening the fellows' knowledge of the disease.
