Job Summary:

We are looking to hire a highly motivated and energetic recent graduate to join our group in the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology. The Research Support Specialist will fulfill research support duties as well as carrying out original scientific research under the supervision of Dr. Olson and senior lab personnel. The lab studies some of the most prevalent neurodevelopmental disorders including intellectual disability, autism and fetal alcohol syndrome disorder. The laboratory uses advanced microscopy, mouse models, organoid cultures and in utero surgical approaches to identify and potentially treat the pathological mechanisms of these disorders. Ongoing development of advanced imaging techniques and biosensors is allowing direct visualization of the underlying pathology of these disorders in developing brain tissue. The Research Support Specialist will be trained in a variety of experimental techniques including: in utero surgery, preparation of organoid cultures; primary neuronal tissue culture; multiphoton fluorescence and confocal microscopy; DNA, RNA, and protein analyses. Additional duties to include maintenance of mouse colony, and preparation of lab reagents. As experience develops, the Research Support Specialist will also engage in data interpretation and analysis, and report preparation. If results are included in publications, the Research Support Specialist will be appropriately acknowledged in the published manuscripts. Motivation is essential, good organizational and record-keeping skills are required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Neuroscience or related fields

Preferred Qualifications:

Some lab experience preferred, but not essential.

Weekdays and as needed
