Job Summary:

The Senior Admissions Coordinator is essential for shaping financial, operational and leadership goals within patient access services. The Senior Admissions Coordinator guides the patient’s financial experience by reviewing insurance and authorizations, explaining costs and accepting payments pre and post service. Financial duties include confirming coverage and benefits, researching out of pocket costs, collecting payments before, during and/or after admission, initiating payment plans and securing authorizations. Other duties include bed placement coordination, admission, discharge and transfer of patients, partnering with clinical teams on patient activity tracking, verifying accurate physician order entry, managing patient valuables and overseeing the release process, answering a high volume of calls from families and insurers as well as other Upstate staff. In addition, the senior verifier would provide leadership and administrative support by training and onboarding new team members, act as supervisor when leaders are absent, coordinate with utilization review for retrospective requests and appeals, manage paperwork for in house deaths and assist physicians with electronic death certificate completion.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associates Degree and 3 years of relevant experience (preferably in a hospital or healthcare setting) or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Excellent communication skills and ability to handle multiple priorities required. Must obtain CHAA certification required within two years of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of medical terminology and prior experience with hospital patient benefits and authorization requirements for Admissions preferred. Possesses the ability to mentor others and efficient time management skills.

Work Days:

Monday through Friday Days with occasional holidays and weekends
