Job Summary:

The Student Counseling Services Psychologist will provide clinical interventions and outreach and preventative programming to students of Upstate Medical University, including:


" Intake/initial clinical assessment and treatment recommendations
" Long- and short-term psychotherapeutic and counseling intervention to students, including some early evening hours (10-6 pm)
" Group psychotherapy for students
" Risk assessment and referral as needed
" Outreach and preventative programming to students
" Appropriate documentation of all clinical care
" Clinical supervision to pre-doctoral interns in clinical psychology
" Participation in SCS staff meetings and Student Affairs meetings
" Representation of SCS on various University/Department committees
" Consultation to faculty and staff concerning students

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D./Psy.D. in clinical or psychology from an APA accredited program and licensed as a psychologist in NYS or eligible (must receive license within 1 year of employment) required. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Two or more years experience providing individual outpatient therapy to adults preferred. 

Two or more years post-doctoral experience providing individual outpatient therapy to undergraduate or graduate students. Experience with short-term/problem-focused models of therapy. Experience providing group therapy and preventive/outreach programming. Experience providing clinical supervision to unlicensed providers/trainees. Clinical expertise in treating eating disorders, trauma, and/or personality disorders.

The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in and enthusiasm for working with students, especially those in the health professions and graduate sciences; an interest in working with students from diverse and marginalized backgrounds; cultural competency in all aspects of clinical care; and excellent communication skills.

Work Days:

Monday - Friday, varied shifts in between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.
