Job Summary:

The surgical coordinator coordinates/schedules all surgical procedures for the Department of Ophthalmology including medical clearances, pre-testing and any additional follow up needed. Coordinates all special requests (equipment and supplies) for Departmental surgeries. Coordinates the surgery schedule for 6 Department of Ophthalmology faculty as well as resident surgeries with the attending of the month. Identifies appropriate CPT codes, obtains and coordinates authorizations for all procedures/surgeries and inputs into Epic referral record. Orders IOLs, tissue, specialized medications and arranges all needed equipment for surgeries. Communicates all necessary information with patients, family or staff of patient's facility as well as surgery center staff, Ophthalmology staff, attending, and resident physicians. Other various tasks related to surgery scheduling as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associates Degree and 3 years of relevant administrative experience to include patient financial/insurance services experience in a healthcare related setting or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Working knowledge of medical terminology, familiarity with medical coding and excellent written/oral communication and organizational skills required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ophthalmology and/or surgical coordination experience preferred.

Work Days:

Varying hours between 7:00a-5:30p Monday-Friday. No weekends/holidays
