Job Summary:
Responsible for performing journeyman level work as a Carpenter and semi-skilled work in painting and masonry. Will assist in carrying out projects, and may supervise and instruct lower grade incumbents as needed; will read blueprints and maintain new and existing equipment. Specific duties are as follows but not limited to: Performs journeyman level carpentry work to include construction and repair of structures and other wood items. Will also be required to perform skilled and semi-skilled level work in masonry and painting, for the repair, maintenance, and construction of facilities and equipment. Roofing, millwork, furniture construction, repair, and cabinetwork. Make repairs to furniture, windows, screens, picture frames. Install, adjust & place various types of door and building hardware (including locks), door closures, knobs, hinges, door checks, sash fittings and other lock work. Install sheetrock; erect walls from steel and wood frames; install tape, and sand sheet rock (walls & ceilings); install floors & bases (vinyl & wood); install various types of ceilings (suspend, tile etc.); cut & install glass window panes; construct and install concrete forms. Install cabinets and countertops. Construct various structures according to specifications; utilize building materials (i.e. stone, bricks, blocks); mix & spread mortar properly; prepare surfaces for plaster applications, painting. Prepares surfaces for painting using variety of tools and materials; Minor repairs to sheetrock and plaster walls; will prime and apply paint to walls using appropriate techniques. Erect & work from scaffolding & ladders; read blueprints in order to plan and lay out work; supervise & direct lower trades personnel. Must demonstrate knowledge of math used in the carpentry trade, demonstrating working knowledge of carpentry techniques; supervise and train. Must have the ability to concrete form installation. Must be able to perform moderate to heavy lifting. Person must be free from beard and facial hair that may interfere with the fit or seal of a mask respirator at the time of fit testing. Such a mask must be worn in order to comply with State & Federal Safety Health Codes. Must possess and maintain a valid New York State driver's license.
Minimum Qualifications:
Four years of full time experience in the Carpentry trade under a skilled journeyman which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprentice training in the carpentry trade or training gained by the completion of technical courses in a trade and school or institute may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis. Must possess 2 years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work in related trades of Masonry & Painting under the supervision of a skilled tradesman or completion of an appropriate 2 yr. technical school course.

Schedule based on 40 hour work week. Monday-Friday 7am-3:30pm.
