Job Summary:

The Ambulatory Float Nurse Manager assumes primary leadership and management of defined clinical nursing areas to facilitate and deliver comprehensive quality nursing care and to manage the environment in which care is given. Major functions include: goals, planning, customer service/marketing, standards, certification and accreditation, administrative management, budget/cost containment, communication, and education. Ensures adherence to hospital or department and university policies and to nursing policies, procedures, standards, and practices. Nurse Manager exemplifies the Upstate mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Upstate policies and procedures. The Float Nurse Manager will be assigned to cover for prolonged Nurse Manager vacancies or leave of absence, supporting day-to-day operational unit activities and assisting with sustaining strategic initiatives. The Float Nurse Manager will assist with orienting and supporting the new nurse manager once hired. If not providing interim coverage or during downtime, the Float Nurse Manager will assist with hardwiring ongoing nursing department strategic initiatives including but not limited to RN engagement and satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications:

NYS license/registration or eligible as a Register Nurse required. Bachelors degree in Nursing or Masters degree in Nursing required. Five (5) years of post-licensure acute/ambulatory care experience, which encompasses a minimum of three (3) years of experience in a nurse manager role, required. Excellent written/oral communication, organizational and interpersonal skills required. CPR-BLS successfully completed before hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters degree preferred. Nursing Leadership certification upon appointment or obtained within three years of appointment preferred. Other specialty based certifications for nursing leadership (i.e. CCRN, CEN) are also encouraged and supported.
