Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director of Hospital Purchasing, the incumbent will assume responsibilities as the Assistant Director of Hospital Purchasing. Responsibilities include direct supervision of the capital/services or medical/surgery commodities group, the P-card program, and development, implementation, and oversight of a program to protect the integrity of the purchasing portion of the supply chain. Oversees special projects as assigned. Helps cross cover other internal divisions within Purchasing as requested by the Director. Directs functions of assigned staff. Provides internal staff with the vision of operational goals and oversees the implementation steps to ensure goals are reached. Ensures staff is trained on all policies and procedures in accordance with NY State Finance Law, SUNY Administration procurement policies and Upstate policies and procedures. Validates all transactions are documented properly and that the procurement records are audit ready. Work closely with SUNY officials, GPOs, and the Purchasing staff from Stony Brook, Downstate hospitals and SUNY Administration to implement multi hospital contracts for cost savings opportunities and to streamline the procurement work flow. Ensures a continuous line of communication among the different agencies. Create and monitor metrics to measure department output and success. Monitors the operational flow of the department to note any concerns to ensure an efficient and smooth operation. Work with the Director of Hospital Purchasing to modify procedures as warranted.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Business (or related field) and 3 years relevant administrative and purchasing experience OR Associate's degree in Business (or related field) and 5 years relevant administrative and purchasing experience, excellent written/oral communication, organizational, data management and computer skills required. Results oriented and meets deadlines. Strong analytical, contract, and negotiation skills. Effective communications skills required in order to collaborate with a variety of clinical and business leaders across the organization, including executive level and physicians. Must possess strong leadership, organization, and educational skills. Proficient in MS Office with emphasis on Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

Four years or more of corporate purchasing experience including contracting preferably in a hospital setting at an Integrated Delivery Network (IDN) or health care manufacturer or distributor or consultant. Experience in negotiating major contracts for Physician Preference Items (PPI), Information Technology and other specialty hospital clinical departments. Familiarity with Lawson or other similar purchasing systems including the implementation of related modules and conducting of the associated training is a plus. Experience with procurement for a government agency preferably a New York State government owned agency. Masters Degree preferred.

Work Days:

Monday-Friday, 8 am- 4:30 pm
