Job Summary:

The Director of Aging Research Development and Strategic Initiatives develops and guides the development and implementation of strategic research and program initiatives to support Department goals and objectives. This role involves developing and implementing research strategies, managing projects, and ensuring the timely delivery of research findings. The Director conducts market analyses, tracks funding opportunities, and develops and maintains relationships with researchers and funders in the field to continually assess and recommend opportunities for projects to pursue solely or in collaboration with other institutions and researchers. The Director also collaborates with cross-functional teams, drives innovation, and maintains a deep understanding of scientific trends in the field. The Director is also responsible for the management and continued development of the Department's Equity Research Core including new business development, securing discretionary and/or grant funding, operations, and continuous quality improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and recommend to the Department Chair research plans and strategies aligned with Department goals and objectives.
  • Serve in leadership roles, including PI, on research and program projects, defining research methodologies, data collection strategies, and analysis frameworks to ensure robust outcomes.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including lay community members and representatives, to identify key research areas and prioritize projects.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative research environment, encouraging continuous learning and professional growth
  • Direct the Equity Research Core (ERC), developing annual growth goals and budgets, conducting outreach to potential research partners, managing all ERC operations and monitoring funds administration and disbursement, communicating with ERC volunteers and paid community contributors, supervising and supporting staff, and ensuring the ongoing collection and analysis of data to evaluate ERC impact and performance.
  • Oversee all aspects of grant management to ensure that resources are allocated effectively, to manage workload, and ensure all deadlines, reporting requirements and quality standards are met.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential roadblocks, and implement appropriate strategies to mitigate risks and maintain project momentum
  • Present research findings to executive leadership, providing strategic recommendations and insights for research development and growth.
  • Oversee the production of high-quality research reports, whitepapers, and presentations that effectively communicate project findings and insights to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams such as research administration, marketing and accounting.
  • Stay informed about trends in the field of aging and related research and competitive landscapes to inform research strategies.

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in social science or scientific field (e.g., Gerontology, Public Health, Neuroscience)

Minimum of 3 years progressive management experience in an academic setting

Proven leadership, communication, analytical and written/oral communication skills

Demonstrated success in administrative responsibilities including project and grant administration, budgeting and financial management, project planning, and management.

Preferred Qualifications:

Academic experience in geriatrics, gerontology or a related field

Proficiency in research methodologies and statistical analysis

Experience with community-based participatory research

Work Days:

Monday through Friday daytime hours
