Job Summary:  

Mental Health Therapy Aides work in mental health facilities and medical centers and perform a variety of tasks related to the care, nurturing, treatment, education, socialization, habilitation, recovery, healing, and support of individuals diagnosed with a mental illness and/or developmental disability. Incumbents support, instruct, and assist individuals in developing the necessary skills for a healthier lifestyle for themselves and their families. This position provides behavior therapy to children under the guidance of licensed clinicians. 

Minimum Qualifications:

The NYS Department of Civil Service has developed the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement (HELP) Program, Effective April 5th, 2023.  During this program, the NYS Civil Service Exam requirements are suspended for the Mental Health Therapy Aide, SG09 title.

For consideration for this title, you must meet all of the following minimum qualifications:

1: Graduated from high school or have earned a high school equivalency diploma (such as a GED)

Salary:  $46,819 with a $4,000 GEO
