Job Summary:

The Triage Center Nurse will function out of the Triage Center providing critical and timely assessments of injuries and illnesses and successfully guiding patients and/ or callers to the correct disposition for care. In an effort to provide complete customer satisfaction, the nurse should accurately listen and respond appropriately to requests made by callers, patients, physicians, medical director,s and peers. The Triage Nurse Specialist should give high priority to customer service and complete customer satisfaction. The nurse must be able to adjust through a rapidly changing environment. The nurse will manage multiple phones lines and responsibilities including requests for nurse triage from contracts, patients, employees and the general public. This also includes transition follow up phone calls to patients that are discharged from the Upstate University Hospital Health System. This role will play a significant part in ensuring that callers and patients are given access to an Upstate University Hospital (UUH) Nurse 2,4 hours a day for any health information questions, to triage an injury or illness or provide information needed after discharge to ensure a timely, positive outcome after a hospitalization, procedure or visit to one of the emergency rooms at UUH.

Minimum Qualifications:

NYS licensed/registered RN (or eligible), Bachelor's degree in Nursing with one year of hospital-based experience or Associates degree in Nursing with three years of hospital-based experience required. Excellent organizational skills, critical thinking skills, and ability to handle multiple tasks at once. Exceptional customer service skills, verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team. CPR-BLS is required at the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Acute care experience in emergency services or critical care preferred. Prior experience as a telephone triage nurse or time in the Upstate Triage Center.

Work Days:

4-hour day shifts, with weekends and holidays
